Good morning, I’m still working on the capitalists and wish to confirm  the following letters. Thanks in advance!

1a     H?W?W?O?  ( HAWKWOOD )

5a     ?R?KE?           ( DRAKES )

18a   WHI?E          ( WHITE )

42a   ??N?A?

43a   ?E?E?O?E

11d   ?R?T?HARD   ( PRITCHARD )

13d   ?A?V???Y

19d    ?AL??E?E?

21      W?L?O?T?

And if anyone possesses the link to Brewer’s, I would be happy to receive it for safe keeping and future consultation. Thanks!

13d is Calveley. The spelling seems to be causing problems.

Drakes is incorrect.

For 5a, think Michael Caine's characters

Sent too soon, sorry :)

For 5a, think Michael Caine's character in The Italian Job.

Matakari, if you Google the  word in the red squares and a couple of the answers (including the one Tilly gave you), you should get straight to the information...

...sorry, a couple of the unclued entries....

Thanks, all! Grappling with the last four now!

42a   ??N?A?

43a   ?E?E?O?E

19d    ?AL??E?E?

21d      W?L?O?T?

Theres a French architect that fits the pattern for 21d. I'm not sure  whether he falls into their definition of capitalist.

42a has the same surname as Led Zeppelin's drummer.

These were not easy to find as I have never heard of the book.

All done but not sure of parsing of 14a and 17a.

Hankir, 17 A has An, article, dropped from a musical term.

14. Is an abbreviation 1.1.1.

Parsed 17a. Not 14a.

Got 14a,

Thanks, I was away to look up the clues, so I could help properly!

Great hints to produce Bonham and Wilmotte! Looking at the red squares to see if 19d and 43a will appear.

Matakari, Wilmotte is wrong. Some of the names are quite obscure, you really need to have the connection first. I have just Googled  ?????? (red squares) and three of the confirmed names - that took me straight to the theme, the rest of the names.

Good morning, thanks, NACW, I’ve got the nine “worthies” and observe that the spelling for some varies somewhat. A confirmation for the following should see an end to this Doc offering.

26a Youngster central to 19, sadly (5)  ER?ER
10d Pancakes with awnings, not drawn first, around one (6) BLIN?S   ( BLINDS )
36d French man of note at heart of skiing race (4)  ?A?O ( MANO, in the clue? )

Morning, Matakari.

36  (S) Lalo (M)

26 Elver, young animal, part of a thematic answer (with the Brewer's spelling)

Yes, Blinis, pancakes. Blinds, awnings, loses the D for an I.

36d LALO (from "slalom" and Edouard Lalo)

PS I thought you were 'done' apart from the Unclued entries yesterday? You should have said then that you still had answers to get, it might have helped with the thematic stuff.

Thanks, NACW, this was a good workout, but it's done now!
