I’ve just received my quarterly bill for electric and gas. It’s more than doubled. £710 plus £180 so called fuel assistance. So £890. Average for this time of year was £350. WHY? Where the extra £500 is going to come from I have yet to decide. I fear for those that do not have, and cannot get this resource. What a terrible shower of incompetent wastrels run this once great country.

I've just had my quarterly gas bill david. I used to pay around £200 a quarter, but this bill has jumped to £544 which despite all the hype about price rises and so on, was still a shock to the system! Especially when you read about the profits these organisations are still making. We have to just suck it up I'm afraid and pay, and hope it eventually goes back down in...

This can't have come as a surprise, these enormous price hikes have been publicised and discussed everywhere over the last few months

The war in Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, meaning some countries are sourcing gas from elsewhere.

The UK is a high gas user for power generation, so more vulnerable than, say, France which has nuclear power.

Bounce-back from Covid has increased demand.
We have had gas delivered in enormous shipping tankers from Australia to make up the shortages, that is not going to be cheap https://www.independent.co.uk/business/first-australian-gas-in-six-years-to-land-on-uk-shores-b2149950.html
If only there was some gas closer to hand.
Should we shale, douglas?
Have you seen this programme on TV? it's called "The News"! There may be a story on there that will give you a clue.
It's the deranged charge to Net Zero, caused by liberals masquerading as Tories.

Refusing drilling, fracking, gas stores and gas generation has meant we are at the peril of International forces like the war in Ukraine.
My monthly bill for 8/1 to 8/2 was £657.00.

So yours is a bargain.
Are we going to play 'who's got the biggest?'
:-)

And mine doesnt include the so-called fuel allowance.
Our electric bill was £109. Rising to £125 next month. So is it the gas that is so expensive? We've now just topped our oil tank up for £500. Fortunately we have a wood burner and free wood. And we are not polluting so no lectures please!!
surely the fuel assitance is taken OFF not added ON?
and like others have said, serious you have not heard about the rising prices???
Why do you have quarterly bills David. At first I thought it was your monthly DD and was shocked. So basically it wasn't too bad!
"The UK is a high gas user for power generation, so more vulnerable than, say, France which has nuclear power."

A situation for which the anti-nuclear lobby, and the weak willed politicians they convinced over many decades, should hang their head in shame.

All this, all (most) eggs in one basket, approach is ridiculous.

We seem to be getting help with electricity, but not gas. I understand your grievance.
All those paying quarterly can save 10% just by paying monthly.
I really don't see how anyone can be surprised that their energy bills have increased. It's been on the news for months, along with advice and tricks to keep costs down.
I've always had a pre pay metre...it's very slightly more but I know EXACTLY what I'm spending. Had boiler serviced last week and gas man said I'm doing very well compared to most. I'm careful in what I use...and I don't freeze! Thankful for government assistance too.
Pasta, I know exactly what I'm spending every day too, without being on a prepayment meter.
Other people don't seem to Barry...must be why they are shocked.
It's the fear of surprise bills that has kept me on pre pay.
