there is a huge used tyre dump compound burning in the distance 14 fire engines at the scene. its started 10.30am Friday and now sat 11.40 is still burning, it caused at peak times (15hours) massive amounts of smoke drifting for 25 miles + just wondering why they did not ask for helicopter water bomb drops on this fire, the pollution was tremendous, i would have thought two or three water bomb drops would have brought this under control and put it it in a couple of hours

For the benefit of the humourless, it may be that, as with different types of fire extinguishers a tyre fire can't be dealt with by the helicopter method.

On the Millenium, in Holland, we had an enormous tyre fire up the road, all part of the Dutch NY madness that goes on - on a standard New Year, they often lose a small fleet of cars getting burnt out for being too close to their pyres. It's also a question of -ugger the enviroment too!

We were fearful of any sparking, all the houses down the Oud Rhine being thatched.....with us at about seven or eight.
a 1000 tyres about the size of the Dutch one and they brought up diggers and a pile of grit to get it covered....it burned for about 3 days but at least was under control.
