As a lifelong Toon fan - I can still picture Jackie Milburn scoring after 45 seconds against Manchester City in the 1955 F.A. Cup Final - I am torn on this one. I am delighted by the investment and the improvement in the club's fortunes which it should bring in its wake but the source of the funds gives me cause for concern. Languishing at the bottom of the table I don't think it's going to make any difference. I feel that this is going to be another relegation year for Newcastle.

Steve Bruce’s job looks shaky JD
Yes, Newcastle will be a happy place at the moment, and it is nice that it is the latest club who will benefit from a lot of money. I hear that Bruces job is safe for the moment.
From my (serially!!) limited knowledge of football, it can sometime be 'Better the devil you know ...'

Although I think in the case of Mr Ashley, most fans will be willing to take a punt on a new international owner on the basis that things can only get better - as the song has it.

I wish them luck, and hopefully the new injection of enthusiasm will get them moving the right way again.
Meanwhile back in Saudi women are getting stoned for having the audacity to get raped, Gays are being tortured and jailed and enemies of the state kidnapped and chopped into pieces. But Hey ho...............everyone is happy in Geordie Land.
Oh, no, APG, that can't be right. The Premier League has a "fit and proper person test" ...

// Meanwhile back in Saudi women are getting stoned for having the audacity to get raped, Gays are being tortured and jailed//
yeah but no but - the saudis like us which is more than can be said about ....
I wonder what Dennis Coleman, Stephen Vaughan, Craig Whyte and John Ryan, all of whom have failed the "fit and proper person test" (mostly for financial irregularity, or in Ryan's case because he didn't have enough money!) make of it all. Probably not as upset as Hatice Cengiz ...

The fiancee of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has said the Saudi Arabian-backed takeover of Newcastle United is "heartbreaking" for her ... "It seems like they [Newcastle fans] don't care about what happened to Jamal, they just care about the financial future," added Cengiz, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast. "I want to remind them that there is something more important than money, that there is something more important than the financial situation of this club. There are really more expensive values that we have and we need in our life always."
// "It seems like they [Newcastle fans] don't care about what happened to Jamal//
The fans don't decide who will own the club.

Spot on Danny
Oh yes bobbi -but did you see the idiots jumping around outside the Stadium with tea towels on their heads? The fans are celebrating the fact the Saudis are pouring money into the club -seems like they are not bothered where it comes from.

APG, don’t pee on their cornflakes , they’ve had 14 years of the Ashley regime ,whilst buying their club he went each week to watch Spurs who he supports and like Danny said, the fans don’t pick the owner
they dont have to be, and to be fair it's very easy to not care about that stuff when it's not happening to someone you know, or in a place that affcts you
There were also some openly Gay men outside the stadium celebrating too. In Saudi they would be imprisoned and beaten. Fans are either ignorant to the facts or could not care a less whose dirty money buys their club as long as they can get a good game of football to watch.
Personally , its not easy to forget what goes on in other countries unless its convenient to do so. These atrocities are reported on the news frequently. The head of the conglomerate who has bought the club is the Saudi prince who imprisoned his sister for years because she had a mind of her own, and now she seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth.
Question Author
Bednobs there’s a lot of hypocrisy around ( not you )
We are happy to sell arms to the Saudis ,we are the second highest arms dealer behind the United States who, coincidentally took a massive monetary investment to help create Disney World , when Britain stops this, then I’ll be one not celebrating the new owners of NUFC
As Danny says, the fans can't choose the club's owners but it would have perhaps been better had the funds come from elsewhere.
Question Author
APG I guess you being a French Canadian perhaps you don’t understand the passion of the fans of NUFC?
Bobbi // We are happy to sell arms to the Saudis//

Really? and who actually is the 'WE' Because I'm sure the same people criticising the takeover by the Arabs of NFC are criticising the fact we have anything at all to do with them at all. I'm sure those selling Arms to them are also celebrating closer links through sport with them.
Bobbi there are plenty of UK citizens can't stand football and think the fans are obsessed with men kicking a little ball around. Do some homework on Canadians -we have our Hockey fans which are far more passionate than football fans lol!
