I liked today's Prize - good level for me. But I'd appreciate some help parsing a couple of solutions.
Downed one can at end of month (6) I think could be MARTIN. I imagine tin is can but that's as far as I can get.
Drop toast, essentially across floor? On the contrary (4) I believe is BEAD but no idea why.
Any help gratefully received.

a "downed one" is a bird with feathers - martin
A = toAst essentially inside bed (floor)

Thanks all. The bird being a downed one is right as the definition certainly. Still slightly confused as to the parsing. Mar as 'end of month' seems a bit off.
the end of month = mar(ch)

Yeah, I suppose it must be. Mar is a month and tin is at the end of it.
downed = drink
