Who are over the moon that they have a valid excuse this Xmas not to have to visit or invite family over for the big day. I know I am! I've just kept a serious face on and said, I prefer to not take the chance, and to keep you all safe. :0)

Oh yes, I have spent many a Christmas working my butt off prepping, shopping cooking only to cry my eyes out from exhaustion after a barrage of criticisms. The tree and table not coordinated like me you used to When you were married to Mark, roast spuds not right, gravy too thick, haven't you got any Bristol cream etc.... You don't make a proper effort anymore etc...

More than likely teacake.
I think allowing 3 households to mix is crazy, and will lead to a huge spike in infections. This obsession with Christmas is going to undo much of the good that the lockdowns have done - can't people forego a 'traditional' Christmas for just this one year till the vaccines come onstream?

I said weeks ago, that however many times you hit Boris over the head with a sledge hammer, he just don't get it. Yet again he's opening the floodgates to the covid fairies. You would have thought by now the message would have got through his thick head?
i won't get to see my family this Christmas for that i will be sorry.
i dont see them often at any rate as they are some distance away, so this could have been a nice break, alas not to be
The logic maybe that so many famlys would of met up anyway and Police wo'nt get involved in raiding xmas dinners and once peopel get a taste for ignoring rule's they might ignore future ones to.

The pigs in blankets might be knocking at you're door. :0)))))

"I understand that certain people will not be allowed to meet up with other households at Christmas this year. Does anybody know the website to sign up for this service and is there a fee?"

Love it.

Oh dear, your family must be heartbroken they won't be seeing you teacake. You must be the life and soul of the party:-))

13.30 Been there done that as they say, they are all grown up now with their own families, the real truth is they all prefer to stop in their own homes with their own kids. Xmas day can become more of a chore than pleasure otherwise.
How ungrateful of them, what with you helping them out financially.

^^ That's what it is help, not blackmail.
I think there might be... and many of those will be older people. I have certainly known many who would prefer a "normal" day in their own house, but feel pressured into being at a relative's house, to put their minds at rest. So I suspect you're right.

You're dead right pixie, may be i should have said also, I prefer it that way too, we see plenty of each other all year round, I can understand families that live miles apart needing to be together, mine live a stone throw away, Xmas is for their kids to enjoy not being carted away half way through the morning to visit.
I agree entirely teacake.
The last Christmas we had with the family was 40 years ago and we have enjoyed every Christmas since, mainly in the Far East or cruising.
We just want tobe left alone at Christmas which to us is just another day.
Are we sad?......no idea.
Do the kids and grandkids miss us?......no idea.
Do we regard Christmas as a religious festival?.....yes.
Are we religious?......no

The family do what they want to do at Christmas but it only involves a telephone call.......and even that can be a hassle lol,
there must be plenty of people, those in care homes who have missed their loved ones visits, I for one will miss seeing my family this Christmas.
Such a shame that our uncle Albert can't come round to our house this Christmas ,to entertain us with stories of the war .

During the war ......

Of course if they had not been allowed to they would not have. Yeah right.

The basic error of this government is to believe they will keep people from meeting other people by diktat. They won't. If people want to meet, they will meet. if they cannot do so in the pub or coffee shop, so they will find somewhere else. Near me is a small shopping centre. Among its shops is a coffee shop (not one of the big chains). When people were allowed out they would serve coffees and snacks to their regulars. The management had taken "Covid safe" measures, spacing their tables out etc. They also did that with the outside tables they have which were well frequented, even in the winter, as many of the customers are smokers. Now they are closed except for takeaways. So their regulars now get their takeaway comestibles and sit together on the benches in the shopping centre. They are far closer together than they would have been had they been allowed to have their drinks in the coffee shop. So another law on unintended (though entirely foreseeable) consequences.
