Doing the 'i' cryptic crossword no 2366 by Tyrus, 16 across 'Match drawn saved season (4)' must be TIDE - but why? A drawn match is 'TIED', however 'saved' as an instruction doesn't seem to get us to the answer.

19 across 'Force half-back on trial to play' is THE TEMPEST. But why?
Thanks!

Tide = season

scroll down to number 7
Match = tie. If something matches, it ties.
D = drawn, as in sports results, saved (included) in TIE.
Season = tide, as in time and tide.
LOL! Beat me to it!
:))
Struggling with the second one, though. Obviously TEST = TRIAL and The Tempest is a Shakespeare play, but I can't really get the rest.
The Tempest - 'the MET' (force, half [is] back) + 'pest' (trial)
Pest = trial?
Chambers Thesaurus -

pest
n
nuisance, bother, annoyance, irritation, irritant, vexation, trial, curse, scourge, bane, blight, bug colloq. pain, pain in the neck, thorn in the flesh
Fair enough!
