Nearly there! Just need help with some wordplay (some of these may have a misprint in the definition)
7 down: Once out, uplifting gesture of salutation (not in the morning) (4) ALAS?
19 down: Returned money - rupee - that is found in Indian fare (5) NITRE?
22 down: Better looting position held by one showing promise (8) COMELIER?
And lastly (I have the album & tracks) 6 across: Three got into fighting with ----? Could be stupid - i.e. (track 7) (6) SAMSON? - but why?
Thanks in advance.

Pah. Always hope for a theme about classic modern music (it being my passion and only subject I know inside out) and it has to be about this album, perhaps the worst of the past X years. A record that is not only a dreadful dirge of bland mediocrity, but was also the soundtrack to the excesses of it era (rant over). Nevertheless another ingenious and satisfying puzzle. Well done Nudd.
I assume it was Brothers in Arms (track 7 is actually The Man's Too Strong)
I think 6ac is a compound anagram -
THREE GOT INTO ('fighting' is the anagram indicator) 'with' SAMSON = ''ie + The man's too strong'' ('could be stupid' is the anagram indicator for the second string of letters).
