Could be Nile. Almost twisted could be;
Twisted pile, as on carpets? Take N off and it's almost pile.?
So letter pattern is...

N??E

Presumably?
Question Author
Yes, Lynne, At the moment I am favouring Nene as the most of uneven but I'm far from sure.
Not very satisfactory really. Will keep thinking.

Loving your lateral thinking Patsy.
Fanks..... I do try. :)
Nerine, guernsey lily
That leaves us trying to fit 'twisted' in somewhere. Interesting shout all the same.
Question Author
I was thinking uneven with letters neen twisted to Nene.I could well be having a senior moment with this. ☺
I can see your logic, sorry to have been no use.
Could we all be thinking about this the wrong way; could we be looking for a river which is an anagram of another word for 'mostly', rather than a shortened word for 'twisted'. Is there a river Nare? (anagram of near)
Question Author
Thanks, Lynne,Whatever the solution I think it is a bad clue.
Question Author
Buntz. It's a thought but what about flower?
Couldn't come up with any plants that would fit n??e
Flower as in bloom mostly. Twist meaning to..
Flower as in river ??
Buntz see 14:05
Question Author
togo- letters are N??E
Nerine mostly Ne(ri)ne
//Nerine is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family,//

Lol that is all I can think of danny. Bit contrived granted.
Question Author
The only thing missing from that is 'twisted'. All in all it'a a right mare's nest
Have we twisted flower(bloom)to be flower(river).
