Thanks BB, but don't follow 20ac at all , or reference to old soldiers in sweats
the herb is thyme so herb's = TIME'S which is the daily paper
Times sounds (picked up) like thyme's
defn 8 http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/sweats

(slang, mainly British) a soldier, esp one who is old and experienced
20a: i shoud have added that 'picked up' means sounds like so THYME'S sounds like TIMES
