Thanks scorpiojo. TUSK doesn't seem to be a cryptic clue, or am I missing something?
I'm missing it too davey :(
Can just about accept TUSK as mildly cryptic, but what is the 7-letter word that gives the synonym GLASS in 31a?
Tumbler as in a type of Pigeon.
Glass - synonym of 'tumbler' (pigeon & used to release a bolt)
Thanks both. Just seen a silly little one left: 3d - Mother's cross raised (3) -e-r. And the 4 letter word, of course, must fit the theme and be a synonym of the 3-letter word suggested by clue.
dam - weir ?
Got it! And thanks to you, Shoota.
