Unable to find word stubb. It is singular in clue so stubs shouldn't be correct!

Shorter OED gives stubb as alternative spelling for stub derived from Old English but has anyone ever seen this version in day to day usage? Will probably go with it in the absence of any thing better.

I have seen the OED definition of stub but would cheques have been in use back when stubb was in use?
