Here we have it in black and white from the Vice President of the European Commission.

"As in the U.S., we will need a two-chamber system for the United States of Europe. A durable political Union with a strong government (the Commission) and two Chambers: the European Parliament and a 'Senate' of Member States. This European government must be accountable to the directly elected European Parliament. The head of the European government should, according to Vice-President Reding, be elected by the European Parliament which represents all EU citizens."

So there we have it. The truth about the EU aims.

a little old, that, isn't it?
was there ever any doubt?
Do you have a specific issue with the US model of state and federal government?
The time for the abolition of all national parliaments, and direct rule from Strasbourg/Brussels, is long overdue. Europe should be ONE country, with ONE government. The US system (with federal governments as well as a state one) doesn't go anywhere near far enough for me.

No, not for the Yanks I dont. I do have an issue for the UK and Europe.

It would effectively be surrender to Germany. They failed to do it with two world wars now they seem to be close to achieving the great goal by stealth.
/It would effectively be surrender to Germany. /

I agree

But what EU-phobes don't seem to grasp is that the current equivalent to what we did in 1940 is to stay in the EU and contest its governance with Germany and the other members.

Leaving the EU would be the equivalent of appeasement and neutrality.

Don't you think we can cope against the Germans?

I do. I believe we can do much better as a key player in the largest economic entity on the planet than we would with a series of loose trade deals with other countries that would rather deal with the big players.

No, I dont trust it at all. The Germans hate the fact our service industry is so big and want to move it all to FFT. That is pretty much all we have at the moment and it would spell disaster for all of us whether you work in it or not.

Our country will be drained of all resources to fund the Empire growing into poor Eastern bloc countries and any effort we made to do anything will be hampered by bureaucratic rules and dictaks out of Bruxelles.

There will be no chance of fighting from the inside we would be outnumbered and certainly stabbed in the back by the French.

I spent some time working in Bruxelles, France and Germany. The people on the street do not see the population of the UK as European.
I respect your view ymb but it does seem rather defeatist.

Most of the UK businesses I deal with are exploiting our membership not being drained by it

It's hardly surprising if /people on the street (in Brussels etc) do not see the population of the UK as European./

The amount of anti europe rhetoric from some people in the UK is no secret - and why does it matter what they think?

The whole point about /bureaucratic rules and dictaks out of Bruxelles./ is that our Representatives should be the ones making them.

to clarify:

/why does it matter what they think?/

the people on the streets of Brussels etc that is
