I must have got this wrong. I thought couples that had already gone through a Civil Partnership ceremony, could not convert it to a marriage. So how how is Elton and D Furnish going to manage ?

Currently - they are not going to get marriage unless the law changes.

They can't convert it to marriage. I think they have to first dissolve the Civil Partnership, and then they are free to marry.

yeah it is one or the other -
they would presumably have to get a dissolution
but a dissolution is when the civil partnership has broken down and it clearly hasnt.

There was a women on breakfast the other morning who was in the same position in a civic partnership and apparently a law is going through which will allow people in this position to convert to a marriage,she was expecting it to be passed by the end of the year.

Having read my link again, I can see that they do indeed say that that they might later this year, after the law is changed.

What a bl**dy mess this same sex law is !

Why is it a mess? Its been clear enough that folk in a civil partnership would be able to convert but the same gender marriage laws would have to be put in place first....and I am not even taking much notice.

However, those already in civil partnerships are currently not able yet to convert to a marriage. The government said it hoped to rectify that before the end of the year. It is not known how that will affect the couple's plans.

The government will just keep moving goalposts till everyone is accommodated.

I'm sure Dave and Gideon will make an announcement one day. Why else would there be such support for a cobbled together nonsense?
