Hi there I am in a lot of debt with provident personal credit and I was wondering what they would do if I didnt pay. i was thinking I might be better off if it went to a debt collection company or they took me to court. My total debt is £2100 and I pay £38 per week I am on Employment Support Allowance and DLA it is too easy to get into debt. I have been short of money and I avoided her by turning my phone off and my intercom off and sitting in the dark. But they seem to be quite persistent ie phoning a lot and coming round a lot I think they are self employed. Just the fact that they are coming round the house freaks me out what could they actually do?

Of course they are persistent - you owe them money! It could be very bad for your credit rating if you default on the debt, say if you want to buy a house in the future and your record shows you defaulted on a debt. Court costs would add considerably to what you owe them, you don't want that hanging over your head too.

The best thing you can do is let her in, and come clean with her, and see if you can come to another arrangement, given your situation. Presumably when the £38 was originally agreed, you could afford to pay it?

If it goes to debt collectors, they'll be much more direct about trying to contact you. I wouldn't want to risk that, myself.
We worked with Provident at one stage a few years ago.

I may be wrong but I got the impression that they came down hard on 'won't pay' but were a lot more reasonable with 'can't pay'.

As advised above, talk to them and discuss some form of repayment schedule with them.

Im not worried about my credit rating I have been declared bankrupt 3 times !!
OK then, that's not a problem to you at the moment - but the collection element will be. Get in touch with them, ignoring it is only burying your head in the sand.

I guess that's why you were with Provident in the first place LOL
