Many thanks, factor-fiction and dannyk13. Far be it from me to argue with your encyclopaedic knowledge, but the only meaning I can find for "crinkle" relates to wrinkling or pursing - nothing to do with rustling. Please put me right if I have got this wrong.
I find I have asecond problem - can 19 across be PEEP? The clue is - sound of a horn or electronic device.
19a -beep
On line dictionary- crinkle= to make a soft crackling sound

Many thanks, parkboy. Presumably, you and the others are sticking with "CRINKLE" for 7 down - still does not look right to me but let`s send the crossword off anyway.
crin·kle (krngkl)

Don't worry Chris.I submitted it on line and it was correct.
