What I mean is that IMO seems daft to give a clue without a definition. Didn't see the crossword in its entirety so prob not qualified to comment.

It is quite common in thematic puzzles, elliemay, where a number of clues have no definition and the answers are in some way related to the theme. In this puzzle there are in fact three 'gimmicks' - some clues have an extra letter in the clue, some clues lead to the answer plus an extra letter (these extra letters in clue order tell us something about the theme) and some these two types of clue also have no definition. Quite a bit to grasp if you are not used to doing them but food and drink to 'themed addicts'!

I personally love the thematic puzzles........some are well beyond me, but I have a go, so to speak!

Takes all sorts, and having a pop at others is a bit low, I think.

It's actually a pretty clever crossword but probably these are an acquired taste! I've enjoyed this one and have solved everything, the person, the associated things etc etc - except for 14d. Any tips would be very welcome.

PS I've found an answer (to do with money) that fits the spaces but it doesn't seem to,tie in tidily with anything else!!!

I had the answer to this but couldn't really find the definition - I presume it's an &lit ? If so it seems a bit weak as my answer is adjectival which doesn't quite fit the clue, which admittedly has an appetite related surface reading.
