I have asked this before but as yet no answer i'm stumped

What do yellow posts on the roadside mean?

They aren't snow posts are they. Can't say I have ever seen any. What do they look like.
Are we talking about British roads.
Haven't seen any yellow posts but sometimes there are intermittent yellow stripes on the kerbstones, which I believe are something to do with parking restrictions, but I don't know what. Not much help am I?

Thanks for furry i don't know if this is on British roads or not the only clue i have is as i have written it i can't recall seeing any,but you may be onto something with snow markers. I now have number of letters,(8,5,5)

The stripes on the edge of pavements are loading/unloading restrictions.
Why don't you take a look in the Highway Code, if they are official road markers they'll be identified in there.

Pink i think i have got it now they are a warning for emergency services for overhead cables on the motorway,thanks to all who showed interest.
Grumpy, is this a crossword answer, if you have 8,5,5?
