Maybe the answer is something to do with SHEPHERDED but the clue was wrongly written.

I remember from the 'One Man and his Dog' programme on TV that a particular task foe a sheepdog was 'shedding', meaning separating one or more selected sheep from the rest. So SHEDDED would mean herded, like sheep, in that particular way.
