What did you do to fix it?

What Operating System and version are you running (i.e. Windows XP, Windows 7) and what Anti-Virus software you you have installed.

This site discusses removal from common browsers:

Sorted (I think).

God, methyl, I`m in a right pickle with it. I thought I`d sorted it but I havent (not on Firefox anyway). I tried to access something and ended up starting to download iLivid. I stopped the download. It appears searchnu is to do with iLivid. I followed instructions from a forum and managed to get my IE back to normal (with google as the homepage) but I just can`t sort out Mozilla Firefox. I can`t get the Firefox page up at all as it goes straight to searchnu. I tried system restore but after seemingly going through the process I get a screen at the end that said an error prevented system restore. I`ve no idea why.

Sorry, it`s Vista.

Thanks but I can`t get the firefox page up to type into the location bar. If I type "aboutconfig" as at the beginning of those instructions, it just goes to an internet search for the word. I`ve been into the control panel and there is no sign of it in there. If it was caused by iLivid (an I`m pretty sure it is) it was downloaded yesterday 16th but there are no downloads from that date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox but it`s made no difference. There seems to be a bit of confusion on forums as to whether it`s a virus or not. What do you think?
Question Author
I`ve managed to get to the about:config bit. I might be getting somewhere. I`ll print off the instructions so I can refer to them (I found the same instructions via a man on youtube but written is better for me as I can follow it in my own time). I`ll do it tomorrow as I`ve been trying to sort it out for 2 hours. Thanks for the link. I`ll post again tomorrow if I need any help (although at the moment, I just feel like paying someone to sort it out). What a waste of a Friday night!

It`s not going to work for me. After typing about:config I can see the huge list and I think I can identify which it is but afterwards I have to navigate to the top menu and click on Tools but there is no top menu because I can`t bring up the Firefox page at all. I`m going to have to get professional help I think. Thanks for your help.

Flipping `ek. I`ve just winged-it without the instructions and seem to have sorted it out. In that long list that comes up when you type about:config, I reset all the ones that said "user set" back to default (mainly ones that mentioned browser in the title). There was also one that said Datamngr which is a known name for searchau. I`ve now got my Firefox page back agan.

No methyl. I had read that they discuise their name such as datamng, search results etc. I haven`t got a lot of programmes on the computer so it`s fairly easy to find something. I couldn`t find anything that showed a download on 16/11. It must still be there somewhere which is strange. Can I use malawarebytes if I`ve got Norton 360 installed?
