An enjoyable puzzle but really once you have the grid fill and letters the highlighting is hardly a challenge. Would have been so much more fun without the across misprint letters.

Grid complete, theme identified, abridged definition spelled out, further guidance quite clear, one child, shaping up like the furniture he requires, the parents sitting in their their accommodation spotted. Massive dilemma with my last character to be highlighted, though, because (s)he occurs twice within my completed grid (2Dn & 20 Dn reversed). I am fully aware of the handicap this character has, but I am, as yet unable to identify why that might clarify my choice. It's difficult to do on this forum, but can anyone explain which I should highlight and why? [email protected]
Hi turast

I have highlighted 20d as because of the handicap he has to stand ^
Thank you K. I agree with your conclusion and your rationale, but it's a bit unsatisfactory, don't you think?
Good morning all - being of a fairly simple turn of mind I regarded the character's
disposition as being merely erect or upright without any hint of reversal, so choose 2d. There is something to be said for both interpretations - pretty fiendish of Shark to include both!
Good morning. I must say I agree with Turast - it's unsatisfactory. As Slaney says, "A case could be made for either". One of the definitions of 'stand' given in the BRB is "rise to one's feet" but it is only ONE of the definitions. Another is to 'remain upright', so I can't see either choice has any merits over the other.
Thinking about it further it would not be possible for this character to rise to his feet anyway, so I'm more inclined to Slaney's view, but conscious that one suspects the 'trickier' solution to be the one that is looked for.
Had a brain clearance in the early hours and identified a rogue letter of the identifying across word which made everything clear re the x 4 and they are now high-lighted (I tend to agree with the 2d entry as I think it sits (!) better with its compatriot) the final element adds a nice touch I think. Does anyone know the work well? Somehow, I don't think it is something I would wish to queue for, but could be persuaded otherwise!
I'm biased as I'm not fond of the works of the named person, apart from one. I'm told they're clever, though.
Perhaps the clue is in the orientation of the other 3 characters - why would Clov's head be below his feet ?
