you help with their crossword, or give good advice, and get
no response, it only takes a second surely. Maybe it's just
me...

This is a long-standing question, em - some don't even come back to the thread. It's only civil to say thank you to people who have helped me.

The mystery to me is another one - when people have given answers and the OP has thanked them, and got all the answers, why do other posters still come along a lot later and post the answers again?!

agree with you em - some 'postees' never ever thank you and ask in a very abrupt manner - I've stopped helping them, however there are others who don't say please and thank you initially but come back on the acknowledge any help - it's a question of getting to know your client!
I always allow a little time, some come on post a query then may pop out or do something like housework and check back later.
These are the ones which annoy me - -- -

practically the whole crossword!
Probably because they've not been taught to. Good manners is part of the learning process.

No, it's not just you. Forgotten how many times I've turned round to some one after answering their question and said in a loud voice "You did say thank you, didn't you?
I ask myself this everyday. Everyday in life. Not just with AB (where people have gotten alot ruder than i remember)......but work and day to day situations!!!

I was taught in primary "the nicest people say with ease, may i , would you, thank you, please" or something like that hehe x

I have noticed it particularly about crosswords, because quite frankly some who post the whole thing, seem to expect and often get others to do it for them.

sir.prize yes i know, and if you look at the profile that is all the person asks, i was curious about it. I like to think i would say thanks for good advice, help, some on here have been extremely helpful.
There are newbies on here though, I give them the benefit of the doubt until they get familiar with the niceties of the site. Some people are less tolerant than others if people are new to crosswording.

boxtops, as i am, but it only takes a second.
Agreed em, politeness costs nothing (and people do remember it).
Don't start me off :)
Haha Boxtops .That has always puzzled me .The ones who feel the need to confirm what's already been given ages after others have already given the correct answers .
And shopping lists as per sir .prizes example .
agree with Boxtops's post about people being new and maybe not knowing the ropes but, surely AB is exactly the same as sitting down and talking to people and you'd be polite in 'real' comapny so why not in cyber company? Think I've just answered my own question - you get rude and well mannered people every day don't you - that's life.
Oh my god, she practically got everyone to do the damn crossword sir prize!!;)

I think it's only right to say thank you when you someone helps you with an answer.

Never a please, and never to return to the thread with a thank you.
Oh My God!!! What a rude sod!!!!
I heard that you had to be rude with them; they are "cross words" when all said and done.
I have provided 9,263 replies and answers.
I have been counting and I now have 1,078 non-returners. (Ungrateful Snags)

: )
thank you for the statistic, AlBags
Is thanking in advance acceptable?

TIA ;0)
