It seems a common desire but... why does every slice of the world want "independence" from something else? People want out of Europe, and then within that they want out of the UK (Scottish and Welsh that is) and SOME, from the looks of it, want out of England!

The logical extreme seems to be that all anyone ever wants is to be isolated, or at least un-tampered with.

People do seem to be trying to be more isolated. Commuters and joggers with their earphones, no-one says good morning any more.
