Hello EVers,
I didn't hand around solving this weeks offering, even resolving the clashes didn't keep me in suspense!
I'll be absent for the next two weeks, off on holiday, so please accept my apologies for absence!

^ hang around!
Hi DocHH!

Allowed myself some time this morning for GK, cryptic and EV but didn't reach my cut-off point. I hope I've put my cross in the right box.
DocHH I thought your typo was a deliberate misprint, I think you could have got away with it. A fun solve with with a clever resolution to the clashes which needed a bit of research at the end at least for me. Thanks Chalicea
Hello all, accidentally posted on 'Quizzes and Puzzles' earlier. For some reason the search facility failed to find this thread. As I said on that thread, an enjoyable puzzle but one that shouldn't require anyone to break a leg or indeed anything else to solve it.

Hope you enjoy your holiday DocHH - going anywhere nice?
Hola one and all; my traveling adventures are over for the time being (till my Sierras trek in late July) so I was able to get this done last night after driving back from Chicago. A very nice EV, I thought, with some well-disguised misprints. Chalicea has also set this months Crossword Centre prize puzzle, for those looking for more to do.

Lots of yard work to catch up on, supposed to hit 91 in StL today (after 97 yesterday). Ugh.

Enjoy your holiday Doc!

Hello Christiana,
We are heading to Sal, one of the Cape Verde Islands! Herself chose the venue! It's so easy to post in the wrong sector! Where are you now, Portugal or UK?
UK - Lincs for the present. Just returned from the Isle of Man where two of my sons plus my grandchildren live. Hope you've polished up your Portuguese for the Cape Verde experience.
I agree that EV was entertaining without being mind blowing!

I couldn't make the clue to 17 across work ~ unless "sign" should be "sighs"!

Am I missing something?
Hi Crofter!

Agree with you on that.Looks like a typo as well as a deliberate misprint.
Possibly a typo of 'sight'. Following a trail through the BRB, it seems the answer can be both singular in one meaning and plural in the other.
Sorry, not thinking straight - basically saying the same as you, Crofter, taking deliberate misprints into account.
In breaks from marking etc. I keep looking at the one clue in a quiz I've been working through for a friend. The answer is the surname of a ( relatively ) famous British person and no answer length is given. The clue is "Reverse point and turn between eyes." Any ideas please.
Novalis, I assume it ends with nose reversed so ESON. Something like Brabeson - although I don't think there is a famous brit of this name.
Have a good hols DocHH & welcome back drb, did you miss the last tornado?
Excellent time in Winchester, now can recommend verious eating establishments in the area!
Latest EV was just down my street, feel very proud as I did almost all (including the quote) on the coach home.........with only a pencil for assistance..........please forgive excessive being pleased with self, it is so rare I am not floundering around begging for clues, can't help it!
How are the weeds Christina? Are your apple trees looking like mine...loaded? Have decided to invest in a heavy duty juicer this year and juice the lot, keeps perfectly in the freezer in discarded 1l tonic bottles.
Hi DD. Yes, my apple trees are loaded too. I agree about the juicing, but my two heaviest croppers are cookers, so guess I will either have to juice those with added sugar or ..... or what. I am still wading through the stewed apples, on their own and with every other combination of fruits known to man, that I froze last year. What I'm very happy about is that my two peach trees also seem to have a heavy crop. Last year we had ONE peach between the two of them. I've no idea whether they drop some of the fruit or not, as it's only my second year here and I've not had peach trees before.
Hi dd,

Joplin is on the western border of Missouri, St. Louis is on the eastern border (about 5 hours away) so it all missed us. Hopefully tornado season is over now and we can quit worrying about it for another year!
dr b, pleased to hear you are in one piece, at least for another year
Andrew, I have been falling to pieces for years, though none of it has been tornado-related so far.
Hi Andrew G-S!

many thanks. I'll explore that avenue.

Doc HH, have a great holiday.

Dr. B. You can't be as decrepit as I am. The only way I can manage my morning jog is by putting a Mercedes engine on my Zimmer frame.
A very happy romp through the clues, with many a giggle at the misprints (loved FORMLESS) ... and fairly quick resolution though I have to confess that I failed to remember which one survived from my schooldays (or the film) and had to resort to the dreaded Wiki in the end. Many thanks, Chalicea.
