thanks greamer.

for your answer as well as your vast sarcasm

Sorry Neverender0 I apologise!
the halcyon is a mythical bird with a long serrated bill said to be a most beautiful blue. She is beloved of the sea gods who make the waters calm for her while she is hatching her chicks. If you google on "legend of halcyon, there are som egood websites.

Did anyone see that wonderful wildlife programme called My Halcyon River? It was primarily about Kingfishers - and this is the meaning of the word. (Latin word from the Greek)

The Kingfisher was believed by the ancients to make a floating nest at the time of the  winter solstice, and  have the power of calming the water while it was breeding.

Could also depend on the context.

Halcyon could mean prosperous, or the golden years, as in "halcyon times past"
