It looks as though my plans for a showbusiness career might have to be put on hold for a while.

Well, I thought it was good, but then again, I lived in Belgium for a year and get the sub-text.
Do Belgians think the Dutch are tight then?
Yup.
I've met some very generous Dutch people. But I've never met a Belgian who freely put his hand in his pocket..

I love the Dutch. Their cheese is way too mild, but their beer is good and their men have gorgeous legs.

Well, it's the other way round in my experience - sorry! - Belgians, generous to a fault. Dutch, short arms, long pockets.
pmsl. don't know why....

Actually, I used to be surrounded by dykes when I lived in t'country, but to my memory, I never stuck my finger on one. Ever. Even when really really drunk.
and as for the beer and cheese - no contest. Dutch - Edam, Gouda, Oranjeboom and the whole world knows it. Belgium - 153 different sorts of cheese, hundreds of different beers, fantastic food, best kept secret in Europe is Belgium.

I've been to Bruges. But I was drunk so only remember Fag Alley.
Both the Flemish Belgians AND the Dutch speak and write better English than most English people and (usually) fluent Spanish, French, German and Russian as well. They eat well, drink well and live well. They take a while to get to know you (being a bit reserved and all) but after that.................MAN, I had a great time there! I can't, however, speak with any great authority about the Wallonian (French speaking) end of the country, but as the Flemings don't like them much and with pretty good reason, I'll go with their view.
