my assistant at work has been working full time for me for a few years and is leaving this week, she is having the whole of february off then coming back on a flexible basis no more than 2 days a week, is she leaving or not? im not sure whether its appropriate to get a leaving card and present or not - what do you think?

I think a small gift and card to thank her for all the years of working for you/helping you full time would be appropriate.
I'd also say you are looking forward to continuing to work with her in March.

A little something for her to treat herself to on her time off might be a nice gesture.

Maybe a voucher for some pampering?

When one of my secretaries left I got her a pampering voucher for her time off before she started a new job and she loved it.
She's not leaving.

No present.

Just say 'see ya'

Thats what i thought Panic Button but then it seems a bit mean! i like the other ideas though. The other thing is do i get everyone to sign it (as i would if she was leaving) or do i just do it personally from me?
how did the chocolate thingy go??

it was very good thank you puddicat. Everyone has eaten it all anyway! I had tried a new recipe i found for a moist chocolate cake, the ingredients included a can of guinness! It was VERY moist though but tasted lovely. I also didnt have a tin big enough so i cooked it in 2 loaf tins, most of 1 has now been eaten as the pudding the other 1 my husband and son can use for pack ups. I used cornflour, sugar and cocoa with the milk - i always make my sauces/custard in the microwave.
If she is your assistant, the card should be just from you.

I'd make a it a "thankyou" card, not a "leaving" card
