It varies but it's around $1.75 at the moment

The official rate is currently about $1.79 to the GB pound; but you'd get about $1.70 at a bank or exchange office.

PS...it UK Sterling...people in Wales and Scotland find this offensive.

Why should they find it offensive. the Scottish Pound is not legal tender abroad so the questioner has every right to specify the English Pound.
