Let's think outside of the box. Be proactive, not reactive. I could go on, but the one that irritates me the most is.....................I've "fallen" pregnant - how the hell can you "fall" pregnant??? Hopefully should give anybody who's ever fallen pregnat a wake up call!!!!!
'It's not rocket science'... what on earth does that mean. Oh, and - 'what are you like?' ...Huh?
how about when people add "that man" to the end of a sentence... "well done, that man!"

what man?!?! eh? what's wrong with: "well done, terry/dave/brian/etc!" ?

Secretsquiz, "Well done, that man!" probably started life at public schools - the famous 'playing-fields of Eton' perhaps - and in military service thereafter. It was used in circumstances where the name of the actual person involved was unknown or unknowable...eg when some unrecognisable, mud-bespattered schoolboy scored a try.

In other situations later in life a Sergeant-Major might bellow from across a parade-ground: 'Get a haircut, that man!' Believe me...you knew who he was talking to if it was you!

i think you have to be a londoner to hear my pet hate, but maybe its spreading , i hope not. my pet hate is the addition of "didn't I" to the end of every sentence, but this is only slightly worse that the"turns round and says" comments. for example "so I turns round and says to him, get that thing out of my house didnt I". if you're telling me, why are you asking me? and the only people who turn round and say things that often are in 'Gone with ther Wind' or some other melodramatic film. i'm sure im being over fussy, the lawyer in me likes precise use of words and abhors all this unnecessary padding out of sentences. having said that, my use of rhyming slang is just as annoying i'm sure. :-)
oooh, no, 'innit' has to be the worst...... particularly when it ends every sentence and makes absolutely no sense (and its not just a poor use of 'isn't it') e.g. "I went to the shop earlier, innit" or "You're looking great today, innit".
Don't ever live in Wales, sarah.t ! The Welsh use "isn't it" at the end of statements all the time whether questioning or not. Their excuse is that it is a literal translation of a Welsh phrase used to make an emphasis, like 'indeed' and which native speakers took into English . What excuse the English have ( Welsh ancestry? A taste for leeks?) I can't imagine !

Ahh but these are little regional enderances...the glaswegian fav is "know", "know whit ah mean" or "like" at the end of every sentence regardless if it's a question or not.
"settle pettle" always annoyed me. how condescending!!
and another thing!

i can't stand it when people question straight facts that you give them. eg...

"where's dave?"

"he's gone to the pub"

"oh, has he?"...

well of course he bl**dy has! otherwise why would i have said it?

My earlier post refers - I've changed my mind, I think Sarah.t is correct............innit. My other half loves Bad Girls, but I cannot watch it because the use of innit all the time drives me up the f*****g wall.
'Hey, check it out!' and 'I'll have to take a rain on that' are two that annoy me.
Oops! missed out a word there! I meant 'rain check' : )
Quizmonster scares me
"singing from the same hymn sheet" Oh yes, and when someone asks you the time, they point at their wrist. I KNOW WHERE MY WATCH IS, THANK YOU. WHERE'S YOURS???
