Patience on a Monument

I first came across the above phrase in P G Woodhouse's books, I recently came across it another author and got to wondering what it means, especially the monument bit, obiously it means we have to be patient but I remain puzzled

It's a quotation from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, as the reference will tell you. Perhaps that will make the meaning clearer.

A statue usually tops a monument. A statue is very patient.
Does it not have connections with the statue The Three Graces? I think the others were Grace Kelly and Gracey Fields.
