my trip to the supermarket took exactly one hour


i drove at a steady speed of 84 kilometres an hour to the supermarket where i stayed for 16 minutes


i drove home at 70km per hour


how far is it to the supermarket

not sure, but you didn't buy much in 16 minutes are you sure you didn't forget anything? Bread, rice Toilet rolls, suncream? It,s far too nice a day to worry about how far the supermarket is? just chill bob.

The first journey would take 20 minutes.


The return would take 24 minutes.


Plus a 16 min. stay = 1 hour.

Morning bob, I make it 28 kilometres.


He takes 20 minutes to drive there and 24 to drive back!The time-honoured equation D = RT, when R = 84 kph and T = 20/60 hours gives D = 28 (kilometres)

There: 28 divided by 84 = 1 third of an hour = 20min


Home: 28 divided by 70 = 2 fifths of an hour = 24min


20 + 16 + 24 = 60min = 1hour for the whole trip

Sorry crofter and clayhead. In the time it took me to work it out and then check it , you both had put in your solutions.
You could argue that it is 84 kilometres to the supermarket !!
