Where did the saying "try walking a thousand miles in my shoes come from?" Or is it put yourself in my shoes? What was the original saying? And its origin?

It's frequently given in forms such as "Try walking a mile in another man's moccasins." That would suggest the saying came from some Native American language originally, but I am not sure whether that is the case.
I think it was from NAI and if I remember rightly I think it was used a lot around the time of the civil rights movement in America, don't think this was when it emerged though!

Never judge someone until you have travelled a mile in their shoes. That way, when you judge them, you're a mile away..... and you have their shoes.

Remember, build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
