In the good old days of 45 RPM vinyl records (the ones with the big holes), the popular recording was on one side and a less popular recording on the other or "flip" side. The DJ (disk jockey) playing these on the radio would, sometimes, play the opposite side and describe it as "on the flip side". This came to mean  "I'll see you a little later"...
... because you flipped the record over. I think it went back beyond 45s to 78s...
Between truckers on the CB (not Chatterbank...) it sometimes meant they would talk or meet on a return journey.
