I've just had an email from a senior partner that quotes the phrase 'False of habit'.
I've never heard that one before. Ones you hear often are Damp Squib, or Doggy Dog World.
Are there any others you have heard people say?

Ha ha, 'One Fowl Swoop' ! As though being attacked by an airbourne chicken..
^ ''(curled up) in the feeble position'' ;-p
"Force of habit" indeed. It refers to something that has become automatic through continuous repetition.

eg if everytime you come in through the front door you hang your keys up somewhere, it becomes a force of habit.

Sorry I meant to write Damp Squid is what you hear, rather than Damp Squib. And people say It's a Doggy-Dog World.
Said my well rounded companion on reaching the summit of Snowdon, "I'm literally dead on my feet". Reader, I buried her.

One wouldn't want to upset the apple tart...
This question is confusing.... False of habit is misquoted, damp squib is not.

A squib is a firework which doesn't go off if wet.

Another frequently misquoted saying is "on tenderhooks".
^^^ sorry took ages for that post to appear and seen your correction now sg.
I recall a colleague who once said:

You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it think.
Friend of mine says she likes "Cumbernauld" sausages. Haven't the heart to correct her.
