My Dad has always come out with spoonerisms, it rubbed off on me and it seems like my son has embraced it too. He wanted 'Bees and chutter' on his baked potato. Years ago my Dad liked watching the 'Krapton Fyctor' and I have kept up to speed with the case of the murder of Crimewatch presenter Jan magic wand.
You only have to Google the renowned Dr. Spooner, Warden of New College Oxford in the late 19C to hear his gems.
My favourite is at the celebrations of Queens Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, when he exhorted the students, " Now let us raise our glasses to the Queer Old Dean".
Magic Wand was the AB's automated substitute for what the spoonerism actually was, I'm sure I don't have to draw a picture. Take Jill Dando, remove the letters JAN and see what you make with what is left.
I suppose to many who use this toy, 'Magic Wand' would be an accurate description.
Dr Spooner to a student he was about to expel:
" You have tasted a whole worm,
You have hissed all my mystery lectures,
So you must leave Oxford tonight by the Town Drain.
I was trying to explain to telephone enquirers about the package on offer at my Uncle's Hotel..........unfortunately none of them seemed terribly anxious to take up the 'Tinky and Tursel weekend'.......:o/
