if u are talking about liquid fuel then it is liquid oxygen and hydrogen (just remember that the rockets always make water during flight) i don't know about solid fuel rockets though
Solid fuel rockets are made of a material called Pentaerithinol Tetranite which is a type of explosive. The rockets fitted to the to the space shuttle produce something in the region of 1'500,000 horsepower each - and obviously once lit, you can't put them out because the combustible material produces oxygen which completes the triangle of fire as oxygen gets thinner the higher they go!
