Police have dropped the investigation in to John Leslie's alleged rape of a woman in 1995.

Surprise Surprise - this investigation never had the blindest hope in hell of getting anywhere.

Should the accuser now lose her anonimity and be paraded in front of the medya the way Leslie has been?

Probably so! but still cant stand the slimy towrag, i feel for his family his brother Grant Stott has a radio here in scotland, and his mum and dad live here, bet they are real proud of him, there must be some substance to his past dalliances, not this one i admit but there is just something about him!!!
Certainly not.

All this proves is there is not enough evidence to find him guilty, not that he didn't do it.
Innocent until proven guilty. The Prosecutors obviously didnt think there was enough evidence for the case to stand up in court.

I dont think the aleged victim should be named but by the same token I dont think he should have been either.

puddi -lol -just cos you dont like him doesnt make him a potential criminal -love yer way with words !!!!
No

The answer is to provide anonymity for the accused in rape cases until found guilty not to compound a dumb system by making everybody suffer.

Remember rape cases are notoriously difficult to prosecute and a tiny proportion of victims come forward

Parading this woman would exacerbate an already bad situation.

Difficult one.

What if someone was accused of rape but no-one was made aware and they went on to repeat offend, would there not be a public outcry that awareness could have prevented someone else from being harmed.

This was a spurious claim - as has been said we are innocent in this country until guilt is proven, and therefore by definition John Leslie is innocent. Simple as that.

Spurious rape claims cheapen a heinous crime, probably one of the most heinous crimes there is, and therefore every single woman that brings a spurious rape claim should be tried and jailed.

And as anonimity is guaranteed for the accuser, it must also be guaranteed for the accused.
How any woman can lie about rape is beyond me. How can someone put another person through such hell and embarassment. The worse thing is that it makes true victims' clams evern more tricky.
yes the accuser should be made public.

In these cases both should be anonymous or both should be public I don't mind which but it's unfair at the moment.
How do you know that this is a spurious claim?

The Metropolitan Police said no further action would be taken following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.

This means that there is insufficient proof to take it further.

This does not mean that the case is spurious.

No she should not be made public (unless it can be proved that it was a deceitful case and after she has been successfully prosecuted for wasting police time).

That said, a male should never be named in this kind of allegation until he has been prosecuted.
Too right the stupid slapper should be named. It might be a lesson to other woman who think they can pull a fast one on a celebrity.
I'm only saying that these women should be named if they admit to making it up, NOT genuine cases, before anybody shouts at me !
It's about time the poor fella was left alone. I feel sorry for him. Even though he was found innocent last time he is still labelled as rapist and sexual predator which is damn unfair. Ok, he's maybe a jack the lad and likes the ladies but he doesn't deserve all this. Perhaps he rejected this particular woman and she was bitter so thought she would get revenge.

I struggle to remember what happened yesterday !!
I remember watching Crimewatch last year and they were talking about the murder of a young girl in 1963 and someone rang in and said they remember seeing a suspicious looking car that very night parked outside a phone box !! Yeah right !
