Yesterday went to the Dentist for a Scale & Polish

I have very sore & swollen Gums.
Dentist gave me 5 LA Injections (which hurt like mad)
Once i was 'numb' she scraped all the Tartar off on & below the Gum Line

Anyway parts were so painful (eventhough i was numb) ?
Why did it hurt so much ?
Could it be coz my Gums are so inflamed & sore ?

is that where they stick the thing down your gum, to measure your gums also? My aunt has it done every now and again because her gums are receding and apparently it does hurt a lot. I have only had one scrape but it didnt hurt and I had no injections, she just didnt polish after so my mouth felt horrible for days.
My dentist always tells me to buy an electric tooth brush and not brush my teeth so vigorously because mine are apparently receeding too. I'd just buy some sensodine and give it a few days to mend.
Unfortunately Lucinda there are a number reasons why scaling would be uncomfartable/painful (that said LA is effective more than 90% of the time)
But yes gums being inflammed and sore would also cause discomfort (rememeber though the aim of the treatment is to help reduce the inflammation to help you to help the gums heal and so hopefully next time shouldn't be so bad)
Also tooth root is more sensitive than the part you see in the mouth
It'll take a week or two to stop throbbing, but you'll be thankful after.
