Although u said that he has been to hospital has he had any of the following1. CT Scan with contrast 2. MRI Scan 3.Blood tests 4.Barium 5. Scopes of Stomach and lower Gastro Intestinal tract....is he a public patient?
Your dad must persevere with needing to know the cause of his symptoms because not only is it worrying for you but being in constant pain is debilitating. Tell him to demand more tests (as bluedolphin has outlined) - and a second or even a third opinion if necessary.

My husband had chronic stomach pain for about six months and was diagnosed as having IBS from our Dr and a hospital specialist - after demanding to see another specialist who gave him an endoscopy it turned out to be a gastric hernia. This is only an example not a diagnosis but proves that perseverance does work in the end!

they did the scan where they use the gel like for pregnant women but thats all. he went hospital(public) today because it was pretty painful and they said they will send a note to the doctor to send him for a scan, which they also said a while ago and when my dad saw the doctor yesterday he says to my dad "why is he writing a letter to me? why don't he send you for a scan?" Our Doctor doesn't sound very helpful does he. im sure there are plenty more like him around which is pretty bad for us who know nothing about how to find a problem with ourselves Maybe we should go private
It sounds to me that u are being fobbed off by the doctors and they hope u wont follow up ....but as Cetti has said u have got to follow up ...be persistent.....on this occasion I would go private to make sure ur dad is ok .....In my local hospital I was fobbed off with tablets for 6 weeks and it was only when I insisted on wanting a more rigorous exam I got some exploratory surgery which ended up in a "Major Job" as the surgeon put it .....I was lucky...but I wouldn't wait to get lucky in ur fathers situation....go private
