Back in the 70's there was an ad. for PLJ on tv. Am I remembering correctly that it said if you drank PLJ diluted in water you would be cleansing your body and improving your skin?

I don't remember that advert but it's quite possible, lemon juice has many cleansing qualities useful as a rinse for hair, a toner for skin and realy good diluted with honey and hot water for a sore throat and on it's own with cold water as a "detox" after one hangover too many.
I remember it well. I was an obese child and my mum used to force me to drink it hot every day, as she had some peculiar notion that it would "melt" my flab. It was DISGUSTING and made me feel sick, and of course didn't make me lose any weight.
