It's one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations.
If she refused all media "invitations", interviews etc. etc., then the media would get p****d off that they can't fill their column inches (or mindless airtime minutes in-between adverts).
In which case, they'd really turn on her and make it up regardless (dig out out imaginary friends, ex-lovers etc etc)
Don't get me wrong - I have no sympathy for her, him, nor interest in the story as a whole. And all I know is what I have seen on the front pages in the newsagents while I am reaching for my Liberal Yoghurt-Knitter's Daily.
There is a two-way relationship between celebs and the media - neither party wants to upset the other - yet none of them will admit it.
Do you think that the press found out about Ms. Mills' past "all of a sudden"?
No, they've been sitting on that story for years, barely able to avoid pi**ing themselves in anticipation, waiting for the time they could use it.
But, prior to the split, they would never have dared incur the wrath of Macca - (he's an ex-Beatle don't-you-know, and everyone loves the Beatles) - he's almost Royalty, so upset him, and in turn, you upset your own readership (and, more importantly, your circulation).
(Speaking of Royalty, there's a good example in a certain dead parasite that knew how to play the press - and still invokes strong public feeling and saturation headlines to this day)
The only people hard-done by are us. They patronise us with their "exclusives" and "latests" almost as if they believe we actually give a t*ss.
