Jackdaw is another of the stalwarts of the site from when it was a less fractious and judgemental place. In one of his last posts requesting help with a technical problem he was horribly insulted by the resident troll. Jackdaw is a degree level, educated man, getting on now, and would have certainly been exasperated by the way that the ill mannered and badly informed now hold sway. His absence from the daily exchanges might be barely missed initially, but he is not the only true voice missing. It will tell in the long run, the more discerning will notice first.

That's rather a surprising comment when considering the many seasoned posters who continue to make this an educational and entertaining forum (several of whom have already contributed to this thread).
IMHO your reference here quoted covers only a minority who certainly don't "hold sway", so why do you seem so embittered ? Trolling has always been a problem since cyberspace was invented, it's certainly nothing new. Indeed, Jackdaw's status as an educated and intelligent guy would be just what attracts such boors.
Or perhaps I'm wrong, just not one of your "more discerning" :-)
P.S. I don't recall the post where he was "horribly insulted" (I don't spend as much time nowadays in AB-land as I used to). I was about to ask for a link, but no, let it lie, best forgotten.
P.P.S Although I often hold a different opinion from him, on a trivial level I always feel a special affinity for Jackdaw as one of the few contributors with a bird in their usual avatar, specially since we lost the much-lamented Wendilla, bless her.
