Ripening Peaches

I've got both peaches and nectarines that look as if they are going to take a very long time to ripen.
Most Google entries say put in a paper bag with a banana. But I can't find a paper bag- only plastic ones.
Would wrapping in newspaper have much the same effect ? Thank you
