I am often bemused by how people make such ado about their age....'I'm 62, you know!'

I think it is a shame that folk choose to compartmentalise themselves with a number.

Lighten up and drop the hang ups about acting your age, quite frankly sone people make themselves sound notably older when they quote their age.

. "Age is just a number, maturity is a choice"

I agree, eccles. Becoming 62, or any other age, is not something to brag about. It's not so much an achievement as bad luck.
I agree, I also find it odd that people are not happy to divulge their age and keep it well hidden or even lie about it to make out they are younger than they actually are.

I've been told many times that my beard ages me and I would look 20 years younger without it.

Why would I want to look 20 years younger? I'm 58 and I most likely look around that age, I have no desire to look younger than I am, and if I look older, so be it!
They want to be complimented on the fact that they look younger than their age. The classic reply to the OP would be, "Really? You look more like 82!"
/// It's not so much an achievement as bad luck///
It would be worse luck if he didn't reach that age.
OK, danny maybe I should have said "...simply luck."

Very true Balders the higher the number the more mature
Jeez. Who cares, people are free to say/do what they like.

Jeez. Folk can be bemused.
I know I am shocked when ages are given out as some people come across decades older than they are.
A 62 year old Eccles Cake. As hard as a rock.!!!

Hans.
I agree completely with Ratter. I don't get it at all- or why being older is often seen as negative in some way.
Well, there is a negativity for some in getting older, mainly health.
I'm 792 next month, you know. I can recall when I was just 500. Seems like only yesterday.
I've been known to mention my age (I'm 62 by the way) on a thread - if it has been relevant to the discussion.

Haven't got to the stage of announcing it in the bus queue yet.

As for defining oneself or acting one's age (whatever that means), I haven't thus far.
My, you look great for you're age OG. :-)
when i get to eccles age i'll worry x
We all will.
I've seen Angela Rippon in several shows lately and she makes a point of telling everybody, 'Well, I'm 71' and up to now, not one person has said, 'Really, you don't look it'Ha ha
I think it's quite strange when people are discussing an elderly relative's birthday, and they say something like "He/she is 96 years young.". I find it sort of condescending in a way.
