Yesterday I found a packet of Prosciutto at the back of the fridge, that I had forgotten about. It had a sell-by date of June 7th, but I am almost sure that that was last year, not this June !

I was going to throw it out but thought I wuld taste a bit first.

It was absolutely delicious !......very sweet. As I am still alive this morning, it just goes to show that we should treat these sell-by dates with a large pinch of salt.

I shall enjoy the rest in a sandwich for lunch !

And the evening in the smallest room. Lol.
Mikey, you are such a ham!
ham is preserved meat Mikey should be ok

also sell by dates have to be 100% good at that date ( laws against rotten food ) so the puke-by date is far into the future

I ate butter two years after its spread by date - and it was surprisingly good
Not sure I'd eat it mikey, but you're still here so ................
The week end papers had a contest on man-cooking

and the winner was split between tomato jelly (I ate tomato jelly and realised that it was what I was going to eat for the rest of my life .... )

and another who would go around weddings and pick up uneaten sarndwiches and compress them in a bowl and then cut it up into slices and eat it

they said some entries were too disgusting and dangerous to print

I have been reading up about Prosciutto, and I can see it lasting for years, as long as it kept properly.

It was interleaved with thin slices of plastic film and the whole pack was very well sealed....I had to cut the pack open with a pair of scissors.

Interesting Wiki article here :::

Bathy...a large glass of Prosecco and a few slices of Prosciutto, with some crusty bread, and maybe a few olives, would made a very fine snack indeed !
It sounds well packed mikey, so no wonder it was OK.

I thought it was a drink at first Baths ....
I'd eat it, too, mikey...... and if the prosecco, prosciutto, bread and olives constituted an invitation, I'd accept.
No olives for me though !

Last time I was on hols in Rome, we ate "Prosciutto e Melone" as a starter every night for 5 days !

And why is that basket of bread that they always plonk down on the table in Italy so ruddy good ? Its a sort of light-grey colour but tastes wonderful. I wish I could buy it easily here Britain. I suppose its got some rye flour in it.

When I worked up in Town in the late 80's-early 90's, there was a wonderful Italian bakery in a street behind Harrods...I wonder if its still there ?

Prosciutto is aged so long (18-24+ months ),I doubt another couple of months would make a difference. Just enjoy it.
