I find humour in the sickest of things so when I don't it speaks volumes to me.
Ireland is voting on same sex marriage which to be quite frank I don't care about.
Now something I don't know how I feel about is same sex couples bringing up children...But
Something I saw which made me see red was from the No campaign. It was a poster which read "Children deserve a mother and a father".
Are there people around that believe life is as simple as that because from my experience it is NOT!!!

I think children deserve a mother and father, but they don't always get them. It's not an argument against gay marriage or parenting.
Ireland, north and south, is deeply conservative. We shouldn't be surprised at what the reactionaries will get up to in promoting their views.

That's why they send their problems over the water to England. Such as mixed marriages, abortion etc.
Political slogans are NEVER realistic.
^ True. If a young woman, or her family, have the means an abortion is just a flight away. If she's poor she can risk a back street operator or have the child.
Let me add to your incredulity, Gav......

The photograph of the man and woman kissing the baby on the posters produced by the NO campaigners was used without consent.
The couple were furious when they saw them.......especially as, like most sane people in Ireland, they will be voting YES...

Not that there should have to be a vote at all.....
I know. An abusive father is better than no father!!! (or mother)

They'll vote no.

I had a mother and father, we were rich, most of my friends houses would of fitted in our hall. My childhood was hell! To condense something into a slogan I find deeply deeply offensive. For some people home is where you feel safe for others it is the last place they feel safe.
You can never tell what goes on behind closed doors.
on a different tangent Gav - so sorry to hear your childhood was hell. We had nothing and 9 of us lived in a 2 up and down - no bathroom - everything was done in the scullery - washed, dressed and ate but it was a good childhood - didn't think so at the time tho. Hope life got better for you as it went on.
I'm not so sure, Ummmm......this is a young country and the church isn't a strong as it once was......thank god.....

Up around Dublin I'd been sure of a Yes vote...haven't sussed out down here yet......x
Ummmm, //An abusive father is better than no father!!! //

I don't agree with that at all. A child is far better off with one good parent.

I think they'll vote no.

I find people that have what I call a "Walt Disney" view of life amusing at times or at other times can make my blood boil.
A lot of my friends are happy clappy Christians. When I said that despite being brought up as a Christian and going to church I have never felt God's presence then to be told it is my fault as I have never let him in! I was aghast.
‘You never let him in’ means that you haven’t abandoned your intellect and exchanged reason for fantasy.
A disabled friend of mine joined a happy-clappy church. A 'well respected' member of the congregation told her that should must have been evil in a past life and that was the reason she was disabled....she never darkened the church's door again....
^There you go, Gavmacp.
Naomi....that is not my opinion. It's the attitude of some.

Gness....as you know my daughter is living back there. According to her she thinks it'll be a definite no.

I have lots of friends living between Mayo and Galway and their posts on FB shock me regarding gay marriage and homosexuality. I can't believe we grew up together.
Ummmm, ah, right. Thanks for clarifying that.
My mother is a happy clapper. Anything that goes wrong in my life is because I haven't asked the lord into my heart.

This is just an example....say you get bitten in the face by a dog it'll be because you were too vain!

Supported a very disabled lady who took 2 hours to eat her meals. She looked as if she had been dropped from a very high height. Her parents were delightful. They were told that when they all died they would meet their child in heaven without all her disabilities. They were horrfied as they truly loved their child as she was!
