I wish I knew what he said. I have always thought of Mellor as a bit of pillock, although you have to admire his nerve for deeming to know London better than the Cab driver !

mikey, in another era I used to take a taxi home three or four nights a week. In three years of doing this I found exactly two cabbies who knew where my street was, although it led off one of London's main arterial routes.

Knowing London better than a cab driver isn't difficult.

My maternal grandfather was a cabbie before and after the War. Mum used to tell me that he did the "Knowledge" by cycling around London for days on end, learning the routes.

When I worked up in Town in the late 80's and early 90's, for BT, a black cab was a luxury that I used to treat myself with once or twice a week. I can honestly say that none of them ever let me down, although it also has to be said that not many were terribly keen to go far south of the river after midnight !

London cabs are allowed to be fitted with a "CCTV system that will include any electronic recording device attached to the inside of vehicle having the technical capability of capturing and retaining visual images and audio recording from inside or external to the vehicle. In addition to the standard CCTV camera system these may include for example, such devices as events/incident/accident data recording devices."

Didn't the driver switch on his mobile phone when Mellor started his foul mouth abuse.
Don't think drivers have access to fitted cameras in taxis as they are sealed units,only opened by PCO or police.

Imo, Mellor is the personification of arrogance. Funny how he failed to mention to the cabbie that he left the Cabinet in disgrace! Mrs M was in the cab, not that you would know it. I would feel sorry for her, save she married him...
