My eyelids have become very itchy and sore throughout the day. Will an antihistamine tablet be any help?

Worth a try, Tilly ....also cucumber or teabags...x
Wouldn't be my first choice............or choice at all.

1%hydrocortisone cream would be my choice.
Question Author
I have cucumber, tea bags and hydrocortisone cream. I'll try them all. Thank you both.

sqad, why are you anti antihistamines?
Antihistamines are fine....I am NOT anti histamine, but to take a tablet for itchy eyebrows with it's side effect on the body, when a little cream with no side effects will do the trick....seems to remind me of a "sledgehammer to crack a nut."
or even a shrimp's kneecap.
Question Author
I understand that, sqad. Thanks.

Scuttles away to google side effects of anti histamines
er Sqad, sorry, but Tilly didn't say itchy eyebrows, but itchy eyelids.

It might be blepharitis.
LOL....thanks Winner......your diagnosis is almost certainly correct, so is your comment .. BUT my opinion remains the same.
check out blepheritis (sp?) Tilly - I've been diagnosed with it but the NHS stuff didn't work for me , was very harsh - got some stuff from my optician which was much better. Try bathing eyes each morning with a warm cloth, it really helps.

The hydrocortisone seems to have worked. The itching has gone but they are still very swollen and pink.

This is an on-going problem for me. I will investigate blepharitis.
Sqad has been absolutely right to recommend 1% hydrocortisone. It would be my choice too as it's fairly mild in action. The other thing you could try is E45 Itch-Relief cream which is urea based and even milder. It worked for me when I had this problem a few years back.
