Did any of you watch "The Food Inspectors" last night (BBC 1)? I didn't see it but Mrs R did and it scared her stiff! I am now forbidden to eat bacon and ham!
The programme (so I am told) claimed that the methods used to cure bacon and ham involve carcinogenic materials. If it's true then "cure" is rather an inappropriate word for the process.
Is there any kind of standard of truthfulness that programmes like this have to comply with before being shown? If there isn't, it seems somewhat unfair to people whose livelihoods can be affected by scaremongering.
I saw it, mostly it was about the amount of Nitrate additives they add go it. They said in high amounts it can raise your getting colon cancer by about 20%.
