A purely hypothetical question on something which has come up in a conversation I was having.
If a woman is working and her husband is not...will he get dole?

I think which benefits he can get would depend on how much his wife was earning.
Why is he not working?
Hi Kloofnek. it depends how long he has worked before becoming unemployed. If he has worked more than two tax years and paid contributions then he will get contribution based Job Seekers Allowance. If he has not worked ie been a student or worked abroad, then he will not get JSL if his wife or partner he lives with is earning.
there are two type of dole - contribution jsa and means tested jsa. If he has paid enough contributions he can get 6 months worth of the contribution jsa. If not, the means tested one will be done on household income, not his

Why be so derogatory, is it not Job Seekers Allowance?

She works in Iceland..he was a painter and decorator by trade but he was finished up...quite a while ago now...I think...and now cannot find work...he is pushing 60 if not already.
I think that he would be able to claim unemployment benefit for the fist 6 months of being out of work, but then it would be it would be down to what ever income the wife earns if he got anymore unemployment benefit.
